Filotimo Foundation’s partners at Atlantic Reproductive Medicine in Raleigh, NC offer support to men and women living with cystic fibrosis as they work to grow their families. In a recent blog post, Atlantic Reproductive unpacks how people living with cystic fibrosis can navigate having biological children, including:
- Reproductive challenges men and women living with cystic fibrosis may face and steps they can take in pursuit of biological parenthood, including Assisted Reproductive Technology (ART) like in vitro fertilization (IVF) and sperm retrieval
- The timing of starting a family while living with cystic fibrosis, including recommendations like waiting at least three months to give the body time to heal from an infection or hospitalization and optimizing the timing of sperm retrieval around procedures like lung transplants and/or the initiation of medications like Trikafta
- The importance of preimplantation genetic testing for monogenic/single gene defects (PGT-M) for couples in which both partners have mutations in the CFTR gene that causes cystic fibrosis, allowing embryos to be tested to see whether they harbor the mutation or are at risk for having cystic fibrosis
The post also explores the services offered by Atlantic Reproductive specific to patients living with cystic fibrosis and the clinic’s partnership with the Filotimo Foundation. Click here to check out the full blog post and learn more!
